What CACI is
For conditions on the FAA's CACI list, the examiner can issue a regular certificate using the CACI worksheet.
When every criterion is met and the pilot is otherwise qualified, the examiner may issue at the first exam, or the first time the condition is reported, without contacting the FAA.
The FAA's definition in full
CACI stands for Conditions AMEs Can Issue. The Guide describes it as a series of conditions for which the examiner can issue a regular certificate when the pilot meets the condition's CACI worksheet.
FAA source: what CACI means
Conditions AMEs Can Issue (CACI) is a series of conditions which allow AMEs to regular issue if the applicant meets the parameters of the CACI Condition Worksheet.
How CACI works
The examiner may be able to issue at one exam, with the documents the condition's worksheet asks for.
Prepare the documents
Each condition's CACI worksheet sets out what that condition requires.
Visit your AME
Have the documents with you at the exam. For some conditions the examiner may be able to issue at once with them; without them, certification may be delayed.
The AME checks the criteria
The examiner reads the condition's disposition table first, to verify a CACI is required, then the CACI worksheet.
Every CACI criterion met, and the pilot otherwise qualified. The examiner may issue at that exam, without contacting the FAA.
Not met. The examiner must defer the exam and send the supporting documents to the FAA.

- Step 1. Prepare the documents
Each condition's CACI worksheet sets out what that condition requires.
The worksheets provide detailed instructions to the examiner and outline condition-specific requirements for the applicant.
- Step 2. Visit your AME
Have the documents with you at the exam. For some conditions the examiner may be able to issue at once with them; without them, certification may be delayed.
For some conditions, your AME may be able to issue a medical certificate immediately if you have the correct documentation at the time of your exam. Without the correct documentation, your medical certification may be delayed.
- Step 3. The AME checks the criteria
The examiner reads the condition's disposition table first, to verify a CACI is required, then the CACI worksheet.
Review the disposition table BEFORE the CACI worksheet to verify a CACI is required.
- How it ends
Every CACI criterion met, and the pilot otherwise qualified. The examiner may issue at that exam, without contacting the FAA.
If all the CACI criteria are met and the applicant is otherwise qualified, the AME may issue on the first exam or the first time the condition is reported to the AME without contacting AMCD/RFS.
- Or
Not met. The examiner must defer the exam and send the supporting documents to the FAA.
If the requirements are not met, the AME must defer the exam and send the supporting documents to the FAA.
Good to know
It is not a Special Issuance
DetailsThe Guide calls a CACI certificate a regular issue.

which allow AMEs to regular issue if the applicant meets the parameters of the CACI Condition Worksheet.
Where the papers go
DetailsThe examiner notes it in Block 60 and keeps the supporting documents on file. The Guide says they do not need to be sent to the FAA at this time.

Document the appropriate notes in Block 60 and keep the supporting documents in your files; they do not need to be submitted to the FAA at this time.
After an earlier Special Issuance
DetailsA CACI worksheet has a Block 60 line for a pilot who has, or had, a Special Issuance or an AASI and is now CACI qualified. This one is from the high blood pressure worksheet.

Has current OR previous SI/AASI but now CACI qualified hypertension.
At later exams
At later exams
DetailsA CACI worksheet says how often the information is asked for again. The high blood pressure worksheet says every year for first and second class, and at each required exam for third class.

Applicants for first- or second- class must provide this information annually; applicants for third-class must provide the information with each required exam.
